Update May 2017
A May 2017 Microsft security update for Windows 10 conflicted with a major routine in FileBoss resulting in FileBoss not starting on some Windows 10 systems.

Types of Illegal Characters
- The file is in use
- File name is too long
- One of the folders in the path to the file name is too long
- The path to the filename is too long
- File name (or path) contains illegal characters
- The file name was created by an iOS (Mac), Unix or other operating system
- The file has no name (yes it is possible)
- File is protected by Windows (hidden, system, more...)
- The file is read-only
The file is in use
Problably the most common reason a file can't be renamed, moved or deleted is that it is in use by another program. Many programs, but certainly not all, will put a lock on a file when it opens it
The file name is too long
For all versions of Windows released in the past fifteen years no file name or folder can be longer than
A folder name is too long
The same limitation to the length of the actual file name of 256 characters also applies to the length of any folder along its path.
The length of the path plus the file name is too long
The file name or path contains illegal characters
The file name was created by another system
The file has no name
The file is protected by Windows (hidden,system, more...)
The file is read only
