Update May 2017

A May 2017 Microsft security update for Windows 10 conflicted with a major routine in FileBoss resulting in FileBoss not starting on some Windows 10 systems.

Versions V3.101 and later, fix the problem. You can read more about this at the page
Windows Creators Conflict.

Sample Installation Report

(The following is a sample installation report showing what FileBoss does when it is installed on your computer.

Note: the actual report will vary depending on the option selected during installation and the version of FileBoss being installed.)

This has installed the following files to the  folder of your choice:

FileBoss.exe

The main program

FileBoss.chm

The main help file

FileBossCTX.hlp

Contextual help displayed for specific fields in various dialogs

FBTips.txt

Text and data used by the Tip-of-the-Day information box

SetupInfo.txt

The text version of what you are now reading

uninstXXX.exe and uninstXXX.dat

Two files used to uninstall FileBoss.

For FileBoss Version 4 and above three extra DLLs are added to the top-level installation folder:
    fileboss.dll, fileboss64.dll, and Goth.dll

In addition it will create a folder below your My Documents folder named 'FileBoss Data'. 'My Documents\FileBoss Data' is the default location for files containing options and setting for FileBoss as well as any data files you create.

Fileboss.fbopts

Whether this file is present or not depends on the version of FileBoss you are installing. If it is not installed it will be created the first time FileBoss is run.

Fileboss.fbwins

Keeps track of what Explore and FileSet Windows were open the last time FileBoss was closed so that they can be reopened when it is started again. If it is not installed it will be created the first time FileBoss is run.

Several registry entries will be created under the key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\The Utility Factory\

All registry entries created by this setup program will be deleted if you run FileBoss' uninstall program and if FileBoss hasn't created any other files in the folders later.

In addition FileBoss will be associated with the following extensions:

.fbfileset Stored FileSets, both definition files and static entry files

.fboptions Options and Settings used by FileBoss

.fbwins A collection of windows that are open in FileBoss containing folders or file sets.

.fbdzones A collection of drop zones that can be restored.
